This contemporary lakeside cabin retreat has been designed by Murdough Design, a Massachusetts-based architectural firm, situated on the forested shoreline of Squam Lake, New Hampshire. The lake house offers a serene gathering place for individuals seeking respite from their urban and technology-driven lifestyles. The architectural design of the cabin accentuates and enhances the natural surroundings.

The cabin has been constructed on the foundation and grandfathered footprint of an existing cabin to maintain its advantageous lakeside location. The design of the cabin creates a sense of experiential delight, with a sequence of contrasting spaces that unfold as one moves through the house. Communal areas are open and airy, with floor-to-ceiling windows, while private areas are cozy and cocoon-like. Purposefully placed windows focus on specific views, connecting the interior to the outdoors and blurring the distinction between the two.
Lake Squalm

The building's exterior is designed to reflect the light emanating from the lake, which is filtered through the trees, creating natural atmospheric patterns that are projected onto the building and the space within. The dark color and reflective surfaces of the exterior minimize the structure's visual impact from the lake, blending it seamlessly into the natural environment.
